Documentation draft — not a verified product specification. Search-result fields beyond the confirmed visible fields below are candidate fields only and must not be presented as guaranteed until verified.

Overview

Payer Intelligence helps users locate and research payer identifiers, electronic transaction support and enrollment-related operational requirements. It is intended to reduce time spent searching disconnected payer and EDI references.

Who should use it

Medical billers, enrollment staff, RCM operations teams and clearinghouse support personnel.

Prerequisites

The payer you want to look up. Do not enter member IDs, dates of birth, patient names or other patient identifiers.

Inputs — confirmed visible search fields

These fields are evidenced by a Chrome extension screenshot of a Payer Intelligence screen:

  • Payer Name or ID — example placeholder: Aetna or 00540.
  • State (optional) — default shown as "Any state."
  • Find Payer — search action.
  • Recent — history section.
  • Ctrl + Enter — keyboard search shortcut shown in the extension.

The screenshot also includes a warning not to enter member IDs, dates of birth, patient names or other patient identifiers.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open Payer Intelligence.
  2. Enter a payer name or payer ID.
  3. Optionally choose a state to narrow the search.
  4. Select Find Payer or use the supported shortcut.
  5. Review returned payer records.
  6. Inspect transaction support, enrollment requirements and source context if shown.
  7. Confirm the correct payer ID with the intended clearinghouse, trading partner and transaction type before use.

Understanding payer IDs

A payer may have different IDs for claims, eligibility, remittance and other transactions. A payer ID is not necessarily universal across all clearinghouses. Users should verify trading-partner instructions and whether enrollment or testing is required.

A Payer ID is an identifier used in a particular electronic transaction or clearinghouse context; it may differ by trading partner and transaction.

Understanding results and data freshness

Document the actual fields returned in the deployed application. Candidate fields may include payer name, ID, state, transaction type, enrollment notes and reference links. Do not present any as guaranteed until verified. Operational data can change; include source date and limitations wherever supported.

Troubleshooting

  • No match: search a shorter name, alternate spelling, or remove the state filter.
  • Multiple payer records: check exact legal payer name, network, clearinghouse and transaction.
  • Unexpected ID: verify against official trading-partner guidance.
  • Unavailable search: check connectivity and retry; do not assume the payer does not exist.
  • Details look out of date: confirm them with the payer before submitting or changing a workflow.
