HCPCS Level II
Codes for healthcare services, supplies, equipment, and other items.
Documentation draft — not a verified product specification. The G0008 example below was observed in the live application in a portal capture on 2026-10-31; code descriptions can change, so always check the current descriptor in the application before use.
Overview
HCPCS Level II covers healthcare services, supplies, equipment, and other items not covered by the diagnosis and inpatient procedure systems. HCPCS Level II is distinct from CPT/HCPCS Level I.
Who should use it
Medical coders, billers and RCM staff researching a supply, service or equipment code.
Prerequisites
An Assurlytics account with access to Code Lookup. Use non-PHI information only.
Step-by-step instructions
- Open Code Lookup.
- Select HCPCS Level II.
- Search by a valid HCPCS code or relevant term.
- Review the exact code, descriptor and any available classification metadata.
- Check payer, effective-date and billing rules separately where necessary.
Example — observed in the live application
In a portal capture on 2026-10-31, an HCPCS Level II search for G0008 returned a genuine HCPCS result (not an ICD-10-CM result): G0008 — "Administration of influenza virus vaccine", Billable / Active, effective Oct 1, 2026–present, category "Procedures / Professional Services (temporary)", BETOS O1G, source CMS HCPCS Level II Code Set. Check the current descriptor and applicable payer policy in the application before use, as descriptions and effective dates can change.
Quality safeguard
When searching G0008, the system must search the selected HCPCS code set. It must not silently return an unrelated ICD-10-CM result such as G00. If you see an ICD-10-CM result for an HCPCS search, re-select the HCPCS Level II tab and search again, and report the mismatch — see Troubleshooting.
Understanding results
Review the exact code and descriptor, and — where supported — classification metadata, coding guidance and related codes. The code year and version shown in the application apply.
Limitations
Code Lookup is decision support. It does not replace payer policy, coding guidelines or professional judgement. HCPCS codes are not interchangeable with ICD-10-CM or ICD-10-PCS codes.
Troubleshooting
- No results: confirm the HCPCS Level II tab, spelling and supported code year.
- ICD-10-CM result for an HCPCS search: see the quality safeguard above.
- Unexpected description: confirm the exact code, year and source.
